Create in my a clean heart O God and renew a right spirit within me.
Psalm 51:10
One of my favorite things about the Lord is that He teaches His children. He doesn’t leave us in the dark wondering how to navigate life, but leads us and guides us. Life after salvation is defined by the renewal of our minds and hearts to become more aligned with Christ. I love David’s cry in Psalm 51 because of its rawness and vulnerability. The humility that David carried is reflected greatly in his words. He humbled himself before the Lord and admitted that he was plagued by sin and that his only hope was the mercy and grace of God. Oftentimes, we overlook our desperation for the mercy of God because we're too consumed with pride and the desire to be perfect in the eyes of the world. David's words in Psalm 51 have become my heart's cry. "Create in me a clean heart O God and renew a right spirit within me". One of the definitions of renew is to "replace something that is broken or worn out". When we are made alive in Christ, the Spirit works in us to renew us and refine us, replacing the dead in us with new life in Christ.

When we look at the Gospel message as a whole, we must remember the importance of living out the Christian life. We are not called to live a life that is pleasing to the world, but to live out a life that honors and glorifies the Father. Romans 12:2 says “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is - His good, pleasing and perfect will”. When we’re renewed in Christ we begin to walk in righteousness and holiness. We have a deep desire to pursue the things of God like never before. We begin to become more and more aware of the evil that has corrupted the world and gain a fiery passion for heavenly justice to invade the earth. Every day that we walk with Christ, we're continually being refined and renewed.
